What a paint sprayer gets wrong

A sprayer built for paint is made from materials that were never regulated for food. Under the conditions of real use, they can allow lead, nickel and plastic compounds to migrate into whatever you spray. They are usually sealed units, hard or impossible to take fully apart, so they cannot be cleaned to a food hygiene standard, and they carry no Declaration of Conformity for food contact.

What the testing shows

Every material that touches food is tested by an independent accredited laboratory against the strictest EU and US limits. The results are margins, not near misses, and the sprayer is free from Substances of Very High Concern, including BPA, above the thresholds.

The three foundations

• Preventive control. Every plastic and metal that contacts food is certified food grade, with supplier documentation held for each part.
• Quality and traceability. Good manufacturing practice, batch records and 100 percent end product testing.
• Sanitary design. Made in a hygienic environment and designed to be fully taken apart and cleaned.

What to look for when you buy

Make sure any food sprayer you buy is free from lead and toxic compounds, made from certified food grade materials, of sanitary design so it can be fully cleaned, and backed by a genuine Declaration of Conformity. If a supplier cannot show you these, it is not a food sprayer, whatever the label says.
